If the father is HIV-positive and not the mother, the situation is much easier. Needless to say that it is equally important that the couple does not have unprotected sex because the woman - and in consequence the unborn child - might get infected.
Fortunately, semen can be 'washed', which means that living sperm cells can be separated from the viruses. The virus-free sperm is then used for artificial insemination or IVF if necessary.
